Aden Gulf Maritime Company

Aden Gulf Maritime Company was established by the Hayel Saeed Anam Group to facilitate the economic development of Yemen and its international trade. It is the first private-sector company to construct a marine berth — the first dry and general-cargo terminal in the country — with operations launched in March 2006.

The main objective of the jetty is to accommodate and handle Panamax bulk carriers of up to 80,000 tons for its sister company, Yemen Co. for Flour Mills & Silos, and to increase the capacity of Aden port by receiving larger vessels with deeper draft.

The terminal — Aden Gulf Terminal (AGT) — was designed as a finger-shaped berth to international standards and built by well-known international companies with strong track records in similar marine structures. It has an overall length of 303 metres and a width of 28 metres, with two berths: berth No. 1 on the north side at 14 metres depth, and berth No. 2 on the south side at 12 metres.

Believing that improving loading and unloading at Yemeni ports is vital — and mindful of the need to minimise environmental contamination — the Group equipped the jetty with a ship unloader and conveyor system that minimises dust when discharging wheat directly from vessels to the silos. The evacuator averages 650 tons per hour and can reach up to 800 tons per hour under optimum conditions.
